Computer Aided Learning (CAL)
Computer aided learning ( CAL ) is a pedagogy technique that uses information technologies within or side-by-side traditional classroom environments. Computer educational games and interactive training tutorials are some of the best examples for computer-aided learning. These learning aids, which are used as supplementary materials, build a more engaging, informative and personalized learning experience, which simplifies understanding of new or difficult concepts, develops competencies for learning and makes early childhood learning a more enjoyable experience, that indirectly interests children in studying and schooling. Our past experiences over the years suggests that it also helped increasing enrollment and reducing dropout rate at primary school level. More importantly, computer-aided learning gives primary school children appropriate exposure to information technologies at an early age.
Objectives:
- Build partnerships with Govt. run/aided/unaided schools to provide computer-aided learning to primary school children.
- Provide curriculum advising and transfer know-how to assist school managements in implementing computer-aided learning effectively and efficiently.
Digital Literacy as Life Skill (DLLS)
A digitally literate person possesses skills, knowledge and abilities to function effectively in digital environments. Digital literacy also means having the ability to access, analyze, create and share information appropriately and responsibly. In the 21st century, society and economy are becoming digitally reliant. Digital literacy is fundamental to success in the new global economy and open democratic society. Therefore, we term digital literacy as a life skill. We aim to instill in secondary school students the skills and abilities on how to use IT tools in everyday life. We have designed project-based curriculum on using software applications, the Internet and communication tools in day-to-day activities.
Objectives:
- Build partnerships with Govt. run/aided/unaided schools to provide digital literacy training to upper-primary school children.
- Provide curriculum advising and transfer know-how to assist school managements in implementing DLLS curriculum effectively and efficiently.
India Digital Inclusion (IDI)
The low income and below poverty line population constitutes a significant percentage of India’s total population. Youth with limited education and economically disadvantaged background cannot afford to invest in training that would help them develop technology skills, improve interpersonal skills and gain professional exposure, which the new global economy demands. This impacts their ability to jumpstart careers in various sectors, find jobs that pay well, establish viable self-employment ventures, and stay employed and productive in a changing economy.
The program primarily caters to youth between the age groups of 14-30 years from underserved communities with the primary objective of making them ‘digitally literate’ – enhancing their ability to use digital tools and devices in their day-to-day lives. As part of the IDI Program, PIF runs job-oriented Digital Sakshar trainings and Digital Academies.
In the Digital Sakshar project, apart from application software trainings, the youth are also introduced to various online platforms like banking, shopping and paying utility bills. The emphasis is on exposing them to basics of IT and instilling the confidence in them to implement what they have learnt.
The Digital Academies focus on providing software development training to underprivileged youth interested in making a career as developers. Through all the trainings, youth are encouraged to use IT as one of the sources to enhance their knowledge base. The program aims to channelize their energies for positive and productive purposes through basic IT and soft skills training, thereby making them more efficient and employable. Laptops are provided to the students for self-study and group study.
Objectives:
- Offer training courses on digital literacy, soft skills, learning skills and workplace leadership skills at affordable prices.
- Build partnerships with community organizations to establish training centers in underserved communities for training and professional development
- Provide career coaching, professional development guidance, on-the-job training opportunities and placement assistance
