Panel Discussion- Role of the School Management Committee.

A panel discussion, was arranged by Pratham InfoTech Foundation at Raigad Zilla Parishad School, Chirner, Uran on the 12th of March, 2014. The aim of this discussion was to bring out the role and responsibility of the School Management Committee.

Guest speakers on the panel included, Mr. Gawali, Deputy Education Officer, Education Department, Raigad Zilla Parishad, district Raigad; Mrs. Meena Yadav, Uran Block Education Officer, district Raigad; Mrs.Farida Lambay, Board of Trustee, Pratham, Mumbai; Mrs.Priya Satish, BPCL CSR Deputy Manager; Mr. Shukla, Territory monitor- Uran plant; President of School Education Committee and Mr. Prem Yadav, Director, Pratham InfoTech Foundation. The audience included School Management Committee members, principals from 34 schools and our very own Sancharaks.

The day began with a welcome song sung by the students, followed by the lighting of the lamp.

The discussion was informative wherein Mrs. Farida Lambay spoke about the School Management Committee, their work as well as changes that can be brought about. She also spoke of the ASER survey.

Mr. Gawali expressed his wish to see the program grow from the present block level to the Zilla level.

Mrs. Meena Yadav appreciated the Computer Aided Learning Program that is in process there and said that she would like it to be taken to a greater level and cover entire Uran for which she promised her whole hearted support and well wishes.

Mrs. Priya Satish, spoke of the importance of working towards making a program sustainable.

Mr. Shukla, spoke about BPCL and the different work they do, both for profit as well as for a social cause.

Mr. Prem Yadav spoke of the need of the School Management Committee. He stressed on their role and responsibility. He also spoke about the Computer Aided learning Program, its presence and expansion in Uran.

The day was not limited to this. Another aim of the day was to appreciate a few schools that showed exceptional performance and leadership and thus bring out the value and need of the program. 20 schools that kept the program running even after the completion of the set 2 year agreement were awarded trophies.

2 schools were given a certificate in recognition of their outstanding leadership and for taking an initiative in running the program at their school by arranging for funds on their own.
